The Past Few Days...

Friends from The Rebelution host team, The Rebelution forum, and Forthright Fixation.

  • The Rebelution conference was a blessing. It was lovely meeting up with old and new friends! We were hoping to have more pictures, but our camera batteries died at an inopportune moment. Really, it seems we're cursed in this area. Lucky we're not photographers!
  • Following my arrival here, Hannah discovered that I had never eaten real Southern chicken and dumplings. She considered this a tragedy, and set out to remedy the problem.

Here is the incredibly delectable biscuit recipe she uses, which also doubles as a recipe for dumplings.

    Ingredients:
    2 cups flour
    2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    2/3 cup oil
    1/3 buttermilk
    1 teaspoon butter (melted)

Combine the dry ingredients. Add oil and buttermilk. Last, but not least, mix in the butter. Roll into doughballs or cut with biscuit cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until the outside of biscuits are crispy.

Can life get any better? I submit that it cannot.

  • We're also excited to be taking part in an upcoming blog tour for Jim Spiegel's new book, Gum, Geckos and God. (We didn't know what a blog tour was before this either. Basically, we'll be asking Mr. Spiegel a question regarding his book--which discusses the theological conversations he's shared with his children--and he will answer our question here.) Stay tuned!

Well, that's life in Texas right now! I'm staying with Hannah's family until July 30th, so I may start to use words like "ya'll", "fellers", "fixin' to" and "she done done it" in my posts. We're having a wonderful time.

It was wonderful to see you and Hannah at the Conference! I'm sure y'all (obviously I'm a Texan) will have a fun, God-glorifying month, and hopefully will get a lot accomplished. You will soon agree that Texas is an amazing place, and there's no better time to get fully initiated to Texas than in the summer.

I wish I could've seen you at the conference, but I had no idea who to look for, haha. I'm so glad so many people went though. What a blessing it was to hear Alex and Brett, and Gregg speak! The worship with Joel was awesome, too. Luckily I didn't have to go too far for the conference, I was one of the two people that sat down when they asked who had come from 5 miles away. :P I actually know the son of the preacher at the Heights. It was really neat to hear about how far people had come.

Ah, Lindsey, hope you enjoy the South. My family left there eight years ago, but we still say "y'all" and Mom says "fixin to" Maybe you will keep the habit!

I hope Hannah doesn't give you Southern collard greens. I would pass on those!

How wonderful it is to see and meet old and new friends. I hope one day there will be a Rebelution Conference more accessible to me!

Hmmm...I can see you saying "y'all", Lindsey...eventually. =) "Fixin' to" -- no, not quite. Not you. =)

The biscuit/dumpling recipe looks really, really yummy. Thanks for the update!
